When you are trying to conceive yoga helps to balance the hormones in the body and prepare it for child bearing.  It can also help to reduce stress which could be a contributing factor to infertility.  During pregnancy and after the baby is born, the body is constantly changing; in this class we will explore various methods to stay balanced during this period of transition.  Yoga is a good way to prepare for natural births but the benefits of yoga and skills learned are helpful for any type of birth situation as it teaches you to move within yourself and become more centered and connected.  It also promotes early bonding with your baby.

Class starts with breathing techniques that can be utilized during pregnancy and labor to help calm the mind, includes seated and standing asanas, deep relaxation and may include meditation and chanting.  Prenatal yoga is a safe and effective practice approved by most physicians during pregnancy and postnatal.  It is also a great way to physically, mentally and emotionally nourish yourself and prepare for the changes and challenges of becoming a new mother.  This class is also appropriate for postnatal mothers.  New moms benefit from reducing stress and decreasing insomnia; while learning how to re-connect with themselves after the life changing event of giving birth and becoming a mother.

Partners play a vital role in pregnancy, birth and new life and are encouraged to attend classes!

Modifications will be offered to ensure each student receives the maximum benefit for their needs.

Class is open to students trying to conceive, all stages of pregnancy, moms at least 6 weeks postpartum and support partners.  Please check with your doctor before starting any exercise routine.

Depending on the due dates of moms in classes we will offer partner pre-natal yoga classes approximately every two months.  These classes will focus on incorporating yoga into your early, active, transitional and delivery stages of birth with an emphasis on tips and hints to an unmedicated birth.

Postnatal moms and dads who want to bond with their babies are encouraged to attend Baby and Me Yoga classes.  See the Baby and Me class description for more information.
